Scarabus
Scarabus, an Islay single malt for anyone who is curious and has an eye for detail. A whiskey that is bold and honest about its origins, and a bit secretive about everything else.
With the slogan “Only those who search will find” and the deliberately ambiguous symbols on the label, the brand conveys a sense of mystery and discovery. The design was inspired by the work of Islay-born John Francis Campbell, who invented the Sunlight Recorder, a device for measuring the hours of sunshine in a day, and assembled an extensive collection of Celtic folk tales. The famous Islay single malt from independent bottler Hunter Laing from Glasgow. Bottled in refill, American oak and ex-bourbon barrels, the result is the expected wonderful flavor composition of smoke, salt and strong vanilla.
Scarabus 10 YO
The independent bottler Hunter Laing bottles this wonderful 10-year-old Scarabus peat bomber. It was allowed to mature in American oak casks and refill bourbon casks. Unfortunately, we do not know the distillery, but we do know that this is a genuine single malt.
Nose: Peaty nuances emerge and are accompanied by a slightly sweetish hint.
Palate: The peaty notes intensify and are accompanied by fresh menthol, a subtle sweetness and a hint of leather.
Finish: The finish continues to be peaty and quite long-lasting.
Scarabus Islay
Bottled in refill, American oak and ex-bourbon casks, the result is the expected wonderful flavour composition of smoke, salt and strong vanilla. Named after the most obscure distillery on the island of Islay, which only existed from 1817 to 1818 and translates from Old Norse as "rocky place", this single malt combines all the good qualities for which the island's whiskies are known.
Nose: Smoke and sea salt.
Palate: Smoke, salt, toffee and vanilla, a hint of rhubarb and green apple.
Finish: Long, warm, intense and lingering.
Scarabus Batch Strength
Neither the distillery nor the age of this powerful batch strength Scarabus whisky, which is impressive at 57 per cent by volume, is known. It is the Glasgow bottler Hunter Laing that enables us to enjoy this smoky islander and convinces us directly with this batch strength whisky made from several casks.
Nose: Fine peaty islander notes, with an elegant sea breeze
Palate: Smoky flavours are accompanied by a little bourbon vanilla, spicy liquorice and leather.
Finish: The flavours of the palate remain even in the long-lasting aftertaste.
